The WSU Enactus Team won first place at the 2017 Enactus Regional Competition in Chicago on March 26 and will now move on to the national competition this May in Kansas City.
Enactus is a global organization that works with student leaders around the world to create a more sustainable world through entrepreneurial projects. Enactus stand for (EN)trepreneurial, (ACT)ion, (US). Over the past year, the WSU Enactus team has been working diligently on developing projects to better the community of Worcester. In fact, the project teams dedicated more than 5,000 hours this year to improving the community.
Enactus teams come together every year to compete against one another in regional competitions to qualify for a spot in the national competition. Each team puts together a 17-minute presentation with a visual representation to highlight their projects and endeavors for the year. The presentations are judged by 15 leaders, many from Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, and the government.
Of the 50-plus members in WSU Enactus, five students were chosen to be on the presentation team and three were chosen to be on a technology team. Monica Bhakhri, Jemini Patel, Nathan Childs, Amber Suarez, and Rachel Sharp are the presentation team. Tiffany Marquez, Eddie Peladeau, and Fernando Ponce are the technology team.
Members of the presentation team dedicated more than 500 hours to practicing and perfecting their speech. The executive board has collectively contributed more than 1,000 hours to making sure everything runs smoothly between public relations, finances, and administrative responsibilities.
Nearly every member who attended the regional competition was awarded the Service Leadership Award for having given more than 100 hours in community service.
