English Faculty Present at Pop Culture and Rhetoric Conferences

The Worcester State University English Department was well-represented at the 2016 New England Popular Culture Conference at Keene State College in New Hampshire in October.

Their scholarly contributions to the conference are as follows:

  • Professor MaryLynn Saul, Ph.D., “The Meaning of Beauty in Maguire’s Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister”
  • Associate Professor Donald Vescio, Ph.D., “Did the Aliens Do it? The Disappearance of the Franklin Expedition and Malaysia Airlines Flight 370”
  • Professor Sharon R. Yang, Ph.D., “Social Revolution’s Terrible Price: Mary Shelley’s Failed Pastoral World in Frankenstein”
  • Adjunct Professor Kathy Healey, Ph.D., “Clockwork Resurrection: Steampunk and Frankenstein in Mackenzi Lee’s This Monstrous Thing (2015)”

In addition, Assistant Professor Matthew Ortoleva, Ph.D., presented the paper “Toward a 21st Century Epideictic Rhetoric of Social Protest” at the 2016 Biannual Rhetoric Society of America Conference in Atlanta.
