Laura Murphy (Student Affairs) recently presented at the SHINE Initiative’s Student Mental Wellness Summit at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Mass. Schools that were represented at the summit included Leominster High School, Sizer School (Fitchburg), St. Bernard High School (Fitchburg), and Bromfield School (Harvard).
Murphy offered insight to students who will be transitioning from high school to college,
and spoke about the importance of seeking mental health services, should the need arise.
The SHINE Initiative develops funding and strategic alliances to improve public awareness and understanding of mental health issues, research, and treatment. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2014, SHINE has raised over $1 million.
Worcester State University’s Counseling Services Office also has received a $6,600 grant from the SHINE Initiative for next year.
