Henry Theriault (Academic Affairs) was recently elected president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars at the IAGS conference in Brisbane, Australia.
Theriault was most recently a professor in and chair of the Philosophy Department, where he has taught since 1998. From 1999 to 2007, he coordinated WSU’s Center for the Study of Human Rights.
“IAGS must strive against marginalization while innovatively expanding the field [of genocide studies], especially creating space for emerging scholars particularly vulnerable to this backlash,” he said during his nomination.
Theriault has lectured and given panel papers around the world, including in Armenia, Turkey, Artsakh, Lebanon, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Rwanda, Britain, France, Belgium, Italy, Argentina, Canada, and across the United States.
A longtime contributor to the Armenian Weekly newspaper, Theriault is notably the first Armenian president of the IAGS.
