178 Worcester State University Student-Athletes Named MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic

One-hundred-seventy-eight Worcester State University student-athletes have been named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Fall/Winter 2018 All-Academic Team. The announcement came from the conference office on Tuesday morning.

Student-athletes who compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the course of the Fall and Winter 2018 athletic season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the Fall/Winter All-Academic Team [1].

Worcester State landed the second most student-athletes on the All-Academic Team, trailing only Westfield State, with 207 student-athletes. In total, 1,105 student-athletes from the conference received recognition.

Each of the 15 varsity fall and winter teams were represented on the All-Academic Team. The Lancers women’s basketball had the highest percentage of its student-athletes named to the team, at 83 percent. Women’s volleyball (81 percent) was second, and women’s cross country (80 percent) was third.

“I am proud that our student-athletes continue to do great things in the classroom as well as in competition,” said Michael Mudd, director of athletics at Worcester State. “This fall, our student-athletes set a new standard of academic success. I also appreciate the efforts of our academic support team and coaches who also play a strong role in the success of our student-athletes.”
