Baccalaureate graduates of the Lillian R. Goodman Department of Nursing were honored at a virtual pinning ceremony on Friday, June 12. Pinning ceremonies are a longstanding tradition signifying the completion of academic requirements for becoming a nurse and serve as a way of welcoming newly graduated nurses into the profession.
“Nurses are on the front lines helping our entire society deal with this COVID pandemic. Nurses are risking their lives to keep people safe, and certainly helping families deal with end of life situations,” said President Barry M. Maloney. “With the qualities and skills you have learned at Worcester State, with the education preparation you have, I am confident that you are prepared to make the everyday decisions, as well as the life-and-death decisions.”
The ceremony featured greetings and congratulations from Dean of the School of Education, Health, and Natural Science Linda Larrivee, Ph.D., and Chair and Associate Professor of Nursing Paula Bylaska-Davies, Ph.D. In addition, instructors Janna Trombley, M.S.N. ’16, and Amanda Cornine, M.S.N., presented the student awards.
Graduates also submitted videos of themselves being pinned by significant people in their lives. See the whole ceremony here: https://www.worcester.edu/2020-Nursing-Pinning-Ceremony/?fbclid=IwAR0jRkIzlw2Kk_nRhGZ6MAECOWRcBWFVfmdk09F1jxA0hRfUy0GiEySx0oU
