The Distinguished Alumni Awards are the university’s highest non-degree recognition for alumni. They recognize graduates who have demonstrated excellence in community service, education, professional achievement, or service to the University.
Alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the university are all welcome to submit nominations. Nominees must have earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from Worcester State University or Worcester State College. Current Worcester State University trustees, Worcester State Foundation Board members, and Alumni Association’s Advisory Board directors are not eligible for nomination while in service on the boards.
Nominations can be completed online or if you would like a copy of the nomination form sent to you, email alumni@worcester.edu. The deadline to apply is April 30.
Here are the categories for this year’s awards:
- The Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Community Award is given to an alumnus/alumna/alum who performs outstanding and praiseworthy service in the interests of humanity and seeks to promote justice within his/her community.
- The Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Education Award is presented to an alumnus/alumna/alum who contributes significantly to the intellectual life of those whom he/she has served. He/she is recognized by colleagues as greatly accomplished in the field of education.
- The Outstanding Service to Alma Mater Award is awarded to an alumnus/alumna/alum who exemplifies exceptional loyalty, commitment and dedication to the University. The alumnus/alumna/alum is widely recognized by alumni for their enduring affinity and volunteerism to the University.
- The Outstanding Young Alumnus/Alumna/Alum Award is granted to an alumnus/alumna/alum under the age of 40 who has demonstrated a promising degree of accomplishment. The individual values teaching excellence and has achieved outstanding personal or professional accomplishments that reflect honor on the University.
The category of Distinguished Professional Achievement will not be selected in 2023 due to a deferred award in 2021.
