In a heartwarming ceremony, Worcester State University proudly recognized Kamden Duprey as its first graduate of the Massachusetts Inclusive Postsecondary Education (MAIPSE) program. At Worcester State, the MAIPSE program partners with the Shrewsbury and Worcester public school districts, providing students with the chance to gain valuable academic and social experiences in a supportive environment.
Worcester State President Barry Maloney, who presented Kamden with his certificate of completion, emphasized the broader goals of the university: “As a public institution, we have goals that go beyond just the traditional academics, and this is a program that helps to bring a new segment of population to our campus.”
Lynn Thompson, MAIPSE program coordinator, praised Kamden’s progress: “Kam has shown incredible growth and confidence during his time at Worcester State. It has been a pleasure to work with him and witness his transformation. Kam’s success is a testament to the power of this program to help students like him integrate and thrive at the university. We are so proud of Kam and look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.”

Kamden’s journey through the MAIPSE program was marked by remarkable growth in confidence and social engagement, according to Dr. Sue Foo, Chair of the Education Department and program director. Dr. Foo recalled Kamden’s early days, noting his initial reticence: “I remember the first day he came, he didn’t want to say a word. But one semester in, he was chatting and having great conversations with other students. That told me that he had become really very confident and friendly and was able to engage socially with the other students. Congratulations, Kam. My question for you is, will you come and visit?” Dr. Foo invited Kamden to return and share his experiences with future MAIPSE students.
The celebration was attended by Kamden’s family, friends, faculty, and staff, all expressing their pride and support for the program’s first graduate. President Maloney highlighted the importance of the MAIPSE program, stating, “This is a program that helps to bring a new segment of population to our campus, and we’re excited about that. The success of Kam’s journey through the MAIPSE program serves as a testament to the transformative power of higher education and the importance of creating opportunities for all students to thrive.”
