The Catholic Health Association of the United States is a national leadership organization of more than 1,200 Catholic health care sponsors, hospital systems, hospitals, and related organizations and services.
Chalupka also presented Climate Change and Public Health – what are we doing about it? Developing a Healthcare Agenda for Institutional and National Strategies as a pre-conference workshop at CleanMed 2013. CleanMed is the premier conference on environmental sustainability for the health-care sector. The conference attracts leaders and key decision makers from across the industry, convening health care professionals, university researchers, and designers of professional buildings.
Her workshop examined the increasing scientific and medical consensus on the public health and operational consequences of climate change, including the spread of disease, vulnerability of food and shelter systems, increasing frequency of extreme weather events and the consequent social and economic disruption.
Through a series of interdisciplinary and collaborative work sessions, with equal emphasis on creative thinking and implementation, participants formulated mitigation and adaptation strategies for administration, clinical care, procurement, waste, buildings, energy and transportation.
Chalupka’s co-presenters were Tom Penny, ERM (National Health Service, UK) and Robin Guenther, FAIA, LEED AP, Perkins+Will, New York.
