Agreements Aim to Simplify the Transfer Process

Through several agreements, Worcester State University [1] is streamlining the credit-transfer process for eligible community college students. These are pathways to study one of our nationally recognized programs and with our dedicated faculty—at an affordable price.

A new collaboration [2] between WSU and Mount Wachusett Community College and Quinsigamond Community College will guarantee qualifying students their associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in high-demand programs for $30,000 in four years.

WSU’s agreements with Springfield Technical Community College [3] and Greenfield Community College [4] provide similar credit-transfer guarantees. The total cost to attend each community college and then transfer to WSU, spanning a total of four years, is expected to be around $30,000.

“These programs are designed for college-ready community college students,” says Vice President of Enrollment Management Ryan Forsythe. “We have spelled out a way to attain a quality four-year degree without a high financial burden.”

Each agreement begins in the 2015 fall semester.

Simplifying the Transfer Process

“In today’s higher education environment, respect for students’ previous education experience is expected,” he says. “Having a process that is agreed upon by multiple institutions to provide some guarantees on transfer credit and cost more accurately reflects the benefits of transferring to Worcester State University.”

Transfer of course credits depends on many factors, including:

WSU’s new $30K agreements address these factors by identifying academic programs available at each institution that can offer a seamless education pathway to both associate and baccalaureate degrees in four years.

Defined Roadmaps

“These agreements are defined roadmaps for students and their families to assure they attain a four-year degree from a university known for academic excellence and affordability,” Forsythe explains.

Participating students will be required to complete certain milestones at their community college, and WSU’s community college partners plan to help them be diligent about their educational path and guide their expectations along the way.
