Computer Science Students Participate in NSF Research Experience

Two computer science majors took part in National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates program at UMass Lowell this summer.

Iryna Paluyanava-Pseftis assisted Dr. Fred Martin in his research project “iSENSE: Internet System for Networked Sensor Experimentation.”  iSENSE is a web-based data collection, aggregation and visualization tool that allows educators and students to share real-world scientific data and draw meaningful conclusions about regional, national, and global phenomena. This system allows users to view, graph, analyze and export data from individual sensors (temperature, light, sound, humidity, pH, and other sensors) as well as combining data from multiple sensors.

Andrew Gallant worked with Dr. Cindy Chen from the CS department at UMass Lowell. He took part in database research. In particular, Andrew worked with Google Scholar, wrote utilities code in PHP/Python, and compiled information for Dr. Chen’s research.
