Cook Receives Grant to Research Carbon Cycling in Lakes

Tim Cook (Physical and Earth Sciences) received a $50,000 American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund grant. His grant, titled “Controls on Organic Carbon Accumulation, Burial Efficiency, and Hydrocarbon Content in Lake Sediments of the Boreal Forest-Tundra Ecotone, Labrador, Canada,” will look at the factors that influence organic carbon cycling in lakes.

The grant also will fund two undergraduate students, and involve other students, who will assist Cook in his research.

He also is co-author of a paper titled “Pliocene Warmth, Polar Amplification, and Stepped Pleistocene Cooling Recorded in NE Arctic Russia” published in the March 8 issue of the journal Science.
