Coughlin Field to Get Summer Makeover

Coughlin Field will receive a $2.9 million facelift this summer in Worcester State’s latest campus improvement project. Once completed, the complex will include new turf for the field, a refurbished track, and a new scoreboard, among other enhancements.

The track will be off-line starting Wednesday, May 1, and is scheduled to be open again mid-August, weather permitting, ready for pre-season use by the fall athletic teams.

Plans call for expanded turf areas past both end zones, and the installation of a new logo of Worcester State’s mascot, Chandler, in the middle of the field. The visitors’ stands will be removed, making room for more usable surface area for track and field athletes. Attractive storage units will replace the current facilities that are at the end of their useful life.

A new two-sided scoreboard will be installed on the parking lot side of the field—one side will be a traditional scoreboard for those watching the game, and the other side will be a message board viewable by those entering campus.

Other improvements include updating the lighting to be more energy efficient and improving the sound system.
