Stephen A. Morreale (Criminal Justice) recently presented at the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Justice Education (MACJE) Conference at Fitchburg State University. Morreale was elected as second vice president of MACJE.
Morreale provided a presentation titled “The Future of Criminal Justice Education: A Focus on Quality and Innovation” along with Patricia Gavin, chair of the criminal justice department at Anna Maria College.
The police chiefs of Fitchburg and Brookline presented on a panel representing the Massachusetts Major Cities Chiefs Association. They discussed their attempts to raise the entry level standards of police applicants to require at least an Associate Degree. MACJE has agreed to assist in lobbying the legislature to consider this change in civil service policy and procedure.
Hye Sun Kim and John Tahliani (Criminal Justice) provided a presentation titled “Teaching International Criminal Justice,” which focused on their collaboration in teaching the course in concert with WSUs Theme Semester, Worcester in the World.
MACJE is focused on improving the dialogue between criminal justice educators, criminal justice practitioners, and bridging the gap between academics and practitioners. The inclusion of criminal justice students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, will serve to improve communication and allow for an outlet to share student research.
WSU will be the host of the 2014 MACJE conference, with a theme of Innovative Approaches to the Delivery of Criminal Justice Services.
