Dunker Co-Authors Article in Journal of Nursing Education and Practice

Kimberly Silver Dunker (Nursing) has co-authored an article, “Enhancing quality and safety in clinical teaching: Statewide live continuing education program for adjunct clinical nursing faculty,” that was recently published by the Journal of Nursing Education and Practice, Vol. 8, No. 7.

The article [1], co-authored with Karen Manning, M.S.N. and Nursing Chair of Labouré College, proposes an education program for novice nursing faculty members that is called “Live Continuing Education Program for Adjunct Clinical Nursing Faculty” (LCEP-ACNF). According to the authors, with the current shortage of qualified nursing faculty in higher education, these positions are subsequently being filled by adjunct clinical faculty with little to no classroom teaching experience. The LCEP-ACNF would function as a bi-annual continuing education program that would aid in communication skills development, teaching and orientation strategies, student evaluation and feedback strategies, and mentorship.

Based on their findings from 312 participants, Dunker and Manning concluded that the majority of the target subjects for this program were receptive to their proposal.

The Journal of Nursing Education and Practice is an international peer-reviewed scientific journal providing a forum for original research, case reports, reviews, and experience exchange related to the fields of nursing. In addition to promoting a high standard of clinically-related scholarship, this publication also aims to promote the international exchange of ideas and experience that draw from the different cultures in which the nursing practice takes place.
