Eleven Attend Students United! Conference

Eleven Worcester State University students took part in Students United, the state student leadership conference at Fitchburg State University on March 1. After a lively morning keynote from Nancy Hunter Denney, who introduced the students to the idea of seizing the moment and making the most of their time on the earth, students participated in breakout sessions on leadership and civic engagement.

WSU students leaders from the Student Government Association, the Community and Leadership Experience at Worcester State program, Presidential Student Ambassadors, and other student organizations such as the Dance Club, heard from Massachusetts Secretary of Education Matthew Malone.

WSU attendees included Josh Champagne, Delfi Vargas, Casey Curtin, Brian Mullen, Ashley Tocci, Maggie Rizzo, Timothy White, Marion Calabro, Julianne Harris, and Carissa Rodriquez.  Associate Dean of Student Affairs Tim Sullivan and Mark Wagner, director of the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement, served as staff advisers.

Students United!, the annual Massachusetts Public Higher Education Student Leadership Conference, provides an opportunity for leaders in student government and other campus activities to discuss issues of importance with leaders from state government and learn how to further develop their leadership skills. It is attended each year by approximately 200 students, representing the 29 public colleges and universities in Massachusetts, and is organized by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education in cooperation with the Massachusetts Student Advisory Council.
