Worcester State University’s Enactus team [1] won the League 5 regional competition in Chicago, Ill., on April 9 and will be competing at a national level in May in Kansas City, Mo.
Every year WSU’s Enactus competes with other Enactus teams from different colleges across the country. In March 2016, the team won at a regional competition in Washington, D.C., and moved on to compete at the national competition [2] in St. Louis, Mo. For the first time in WSU history, the team made it to the semi-final round and placed as one of the top 20 Enactus teams out of 120 that made it to nationals. In 2017, the team placed in the top 46 at nationals.
This year, WSU’s Enactus students prevailed over several teams, including Bryan College, Mount Mercy University, and University of Missouri-Kansas City, in order to make it to the national round. Competing this year are team members Nathan Childs, Stephanie Correira, Kathleen Coveno, Andre Laska, Zoe Bates, Kayla Caisse, Samantha Tran, Dexter Canton, Patrick Wallace, Jessie Duong, Lauren Bandfield, and Nick Brooks.
Professor of Business Administration and Economics [3] Joan “Jay” Mahoney, Ph.D., who received a 2017 Jack Kahl Entrepreneurial Leadership Award for Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellows of the Year [4], and Director of the John J. Binienda Center for Civic Engagement [5] Mark Wagner are the Enactus advisors.
