Frechette Publishes Article on News Literacy in a Digital Culture

Julie Frechette (Communication) published an article in Journalism Education titled “From Print Newspapers to Social Media: News Literacy in a Networked Environment” (Volume 5, number 1). The article is part of the special issue Exploring News Literacy: Preparing Future Journalists and Citizens for Engagement in Global Digital Culture [1].

Frechette also presented at two academic conferences. In October, she spoke at the Media Freedom Summit held at Sonoma State University. Her presentation was part of the panel “Challenging Media Industries through Feminism and Queer Theory: Pedagogy and Activism in the Classroom and Beyond.”

In November, she presented at the International Media Education Summit held at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy. She presented information about the new Global Critical Media Literacy Project [2], a collaborative initiative by several media literacy organizations in the United States, including the Action Coalition for Media Education [3], a national organization that she serves as co-president for.
