Author Institute Features Recent Winners of the Caldecott and Newbery Book Awards

June 25-29 are the dates for Worcester State University’s 18th annual Author Institute, a children’s literature conference for teachers and others interested in the field.

This year’s Institute features recent recipients of both the Caldecott and Newbery Book Awards: Javaka Steptoe, author and illustrator of the 2017 Caldecott winner, “Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat,” and Lauren Wolk, author of 2017 Newbery winner, “Wolf Hollow.”

Additional children’s book authors and illustrators who will present include Ted Lewin author and Caldecott Award-winning illustrator of “Tiger Trek” and “Lost City,” and Central Massachusetts’ own Kate Hansom, who wrote “Literal Lily,” “Fickle Fiona,” “Imagination to the Rescue,” and “Creative Christopher.”

The Institute runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on-campus housing is available.
