Baseball and Concert Committee Teams Win Chandler’s Challenge

The Baseball Team and the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership’s Concert Committee Team won Chandler’s Challenge, the second-annual Days of Giving fundraising competition that took place on March 9 and 10. Donors gave more than 1,700 gifts to 32 teams in two brackets—one for athletic teams and one for student clubs and academic departments—in a race to see who could get the most donors per team member in 48 hours using crowdfunding and social media.

In the Athletic Bracket, Volleyball took second place while Softball and Women’s Tennis each won third place. In the Campus Bracket, the Pre-Health Club finished in second place and the Dance Team and Active Minds came in third place. Winning teams received extra prize money for their cause: $1,000 for first place; $500 for second place; and $250 for the third-place teams.

In addition, any team (even those that didn’t advance in the competition) was eligible to win “Power Hour” prizes of $250 by raising the most donors per team member in specifically designated hours throughout the competition. The Volleyball team swept each of the four Athletic Bracket Power Hours, and will receive an additional $1,000 on top of its $500 prize for second place. In the Campus Bracket, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership’s Concert Committee won three of the four Power Hours, winning an addition $750 on top of its second-place prize money, with the WSU Christian Fellowship winning the final Power Hour.

The total money donated, as well as the winners of the teams in each bracket with the most alumni donors, is expected to be announced in late March.
