Worcester State University is now offering a comprehensive series of online, affordable, non-credit training options to prepare graduates for success within the Commonwealth’s new cannabis industry, which is expected to grow by 20,000 new jobs over the next few years.
The cannabis training program, housed within the Center for Business and Industry (CBI), can help students learn best practices in all areas of the industry, including growing plants, managing a dispensary, operating a cultivation business, and navigating the industry’s evolving legal landscape.
“Workers in the cannabis industry are needed in all areas of accounting, finance, production, quality control, and operations, so these credentials can be used for entry for a new professional, or as a stackable credential for those interested in lateral opportunities for their existing degrees,” Jeremiah P. Riordon, Ph.D., CBI director, says.
By partnering with experienced industry professionals and regional entrepreneurs from the industry, Worcester State’s cannabis program offers a comprehensive course framework developed by consulting master gardeners, horticulturists, attorneys, physicians, entrepreneurs, and executive chefs, resulting in a program comprised of more than 100 videos, e-books, and other course materials.
Course content includes growing medical marijuana, extracting and cooking with marijuana, opening (and working in) a dispensary or delivery service, and understanding marijuana laws and regulation.
