Worcester State University Named “Best of Central Mass”

In a region that boasts an abundance of quality higher education institutions, Worcester State took “Best of Central Mass” honors in the colleges and universities category at a Thursday, Nov. 21, awards gala.

The honor was bestowed during the Telegram & Gazette’s 2019 Best of Central Mass Community Choice Awards held at the DCU Center in Worcester. During the fall, the T&G solicited nominations in a range of categories with three finalists named for each award. After votes from the public were tallied, Worcester State took the top spot in its category.

In his opening remarks, Paul Provost, senior vice president for sales and strategy for Gannett Media Co., the T&G’s parent company, said 288,000 votes were cast.

Daniel Hudson ‘20, a WSU Presidential Student Ambassador, attended the gala along with university staff members.  “This award confirms that the Central Mass community now knows what WSU’s students have long known—that Worcester State is the best of the best,” he said after the event.

The local honor will be added to an extensive roster of regional and national awards that Worcester State has received in the recent past, including Princeton Review Best Northeastern College (15 consecutive years), President’s Community Service Honor Roll for Higher Education, and U.S. News and World Report Best Regional University, 1st Tier (North).
