Libyan Rebel Tells Harrowing Tale of Overthrow of Gaddafi

Mohamed Bayou, who earned a certificate in advanced English from Worcester State University’s Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) in 2008, returned to campus on Wednesday, April 11.

He told a harrowing tale of his involvement in the overthrow of 42-year dictator Maummar Gaddafi, including how a border guard sympathetic to the rebel cause permitted Bayou through a checkpoint into Tunisia, how Bayou learned he is a good shot, and that he learned his 17-year-old brother, also a rebel fighter, died at the hands of Gaddafi’s forces from a video clip on a cell phone confiscated from a Gaddafi loyalist whom Bayou’s unit had captured.

Bayou’s talk was sponsored by IELI.
