Maher Named D3football.com All-American

For the second consecutive year, Worcester State University junior Jacob Maher (Mansfield, Mass.) has been named an All-American by D3football.com. He was selected to the Third Team All-America in the tight end position.

Maher has received a bevy of regional awards in recent weeks, culminating in Friday evening’s All-America announcement. Since the season ended just over a month ago, Maher has been named First Team All-Conference in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, First Team All-New England by the New England Football Writers, First Team All-Region by D3football.com, and a First Team Steve “Merc” Morris Worcester Area All-Star by the Worcester Area Football Association.

Maher led the Lancers in every major receiving category this season, with 47 catches, 615 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns in 10 games played. The junior criminal justice major had a pair of two-touchdown outings, first in Worcester State’s loss to Salve Regina to open the season, and again two weeks later in the Lancers’ victory over Fitchburg State.

Last season, Maher was a D3football.com All-America Honorable Mention, while also receiving All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association and the Associated Press. Maher is the first player in program history to be named All-American by D3football.com twice, and is one of just four players to receive D3football.com All-American honors, joining Russ Watson (First Team in 2000), Graham Asum (Third Team in 2012), and Bryan Narcisse (Honorable Mention in 2014). Maher also becomes just the second player in program history to win four All-American awards in his career, joining Scott Holland, who received recognition in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
