Steve Morreale (Criminal Justice) was with Dr. George Kelling, architect of the Broken Windows Theory and the practice-changing Kansas City Preventative Patrol Experiment on police patrol, at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) Annual Meeting in Denver March 29 to April 2.
Dr. Kelling was presented with the coveted O.W. Wilson Award for Policing by the Police Section.
Morreale, president of the regional affiliate Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences (NEACJS), also met with the newly inducted ACJS president, Dr. Lorenzo Boyd from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Morreale presented research on Leadership and Innovation in Police Agencies: Any Relation to Higher Education with Dr. David Lambert of the University of New Haven during the meeting.
He also moderated a roundtable focused on Chairing a Criminal Justice Department. He was joined by representatives from across the United States, including Dr. Gaylene Armstrong of Sam Houston State University, Dr. Jeffery Bumgarner of North Dakota State University, Dr. Robert Mutchnick of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Gennaro F. Vito of the University of Louisville, Dr. Richard Bennett of American University, and Dr. Peter Kraska of Eastern Kentucky University.
In addition, Morreale moderated a panel discussion on Teaching Criminal Justice Courses While the Headlines Sizzle with Negativity that featured Lambert and Dr. James E. McCabe of Sacred Heart University.
The annual meeting was titled “Advancing Justice on All Fronts.” Nearly 1,900 faculty, students, and practitioners attended from across the globe.
