Morreale Presents on ‘Pracademics’ and Organizational Change

Stephen A. Morreale (Criminal Justice) attended and presented at the recent annual conference of the American Society of Criminology in Washington, D.C. The presentation, titled “The Pracademic in Criminal Justice Education,” focused on the benefits for faculty and students having a blend of academics and pracademics (academics with practical experience) in criminal justice departments.

Morreale also recently created and facilitated an executive development session with high ranking members of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections (DOC) held at Roger Williams University in conjunction with the Justice Research and Training Institute. Sixty members of the DOC staff, including the director, wardens, deputy wardens, and unit managers, attended the session.

The focus was on transforming the department, problem identification, setting expectations, accountability, attitude, developing strategies for the future, and developing and engaging personnel. A great deal of time was spent on framing crucial and powerful conversations with staff. Additional training sessions are planned to continue the discussions surrounding vision, mission, and future improvements in the DOC.
