Murphy Honored by Boys & Girls Club of Worcester

Charisse Murphy, director of leadership giving at Worcester State, has been recognized with the Amplify Award from the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester.  The award recognizes a corporate leader in the community who uses her position and influence to amplify young girls’ voices and goals.

The award was presented at a recent special event, the “Be A Voice Breakfast to Support Girls Voice Programming & Honor Our Community Leaders.”

Murphy is the founder of EmPOWER ME! [1] which she started 2015. The program runs curriculum-led groups for girls in grades 5-12. She also has done workshops related to leadership and diversity and did a series with the Groton Public Library for both girls and boys in elementary and middle school that was focused on social justice.

“It was an honor to be recognized by the Boys & Girls Club for my work with young girls,” Murphy says. “It is both rewarding and important work, and I am glad that I have been blessed to be able to act on a passion of mine. EmPOWER ME! was just an idea I had a few years ago, and to see how the program has developed since then is pretty cool!”

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to help youth, especially those most in need, develop the qualities necessary to become responsible citizens and community leaders. The agency provides provide mentoring, programs, and services that help youth reach their full potential.
