Parker and Fisher Receive Materials Needs Grants

Professor Stacey Parker (Visual and Performing Arts) and adjunct faculty member Susan J. Fisher (Visual and Performing Arts) received Materials Needs Grants from ArtsWorcester. Their completed works will be exhibited in the Materials Needs Grant exhibit at the Aurora Gallery in Worcester in September 2016.

Parker plans on using the funding to continue her luminaries from her luminary text series. Several of these luminaries were exhibited at the Faculty Arts Exhibit in the Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery in fall 2014.

Fisher is creating a large-scale mixed media sculpture that combines wire and clay. Her piece is also an extension of the series exhibited in the Faculty Arts Exhibit.

In addition, Fisher received a Stars Grant to work with Columbus Park Preparatory School, a Worcester public school. she will be the artist in residency for students in grades 1-6 to create a project that is part of the 100th anniversary of Columbus Park. She will work with the students to create printed portraits that show the new faces of Columbus Park. The portraits, along with student written narratives, will be part of the students’ class books and of a culminating event in June 2015.
