Siniossoglou’s Work on Exhibit in Boston

A winning piece by Amaryllis Siniossoglou (Visual and Performing Arts) is on display in Boston at the North Bennet Street School through December 22. The competition, “Heroic Works,” organized by Designer Bookbinders and hosted at the Blackwell Hall of the Bodleian’s new Weston Library in Oxford, accepted 184 entries with the top 28, including Siniossoglou’s piece, to be part of a traveling exhibition that includes stopes in Oxford, Birmingham, and London, England with the last stop in Boston.

Designer Bookbinders is one of the foremost bookbinding societies and its International Bookbinding Competition in association with Mark Getty and the Bodleian Library continues to attract top binders from around the world.

For 2017, the theme of the competition was myths, heroes, and legends. Throughout the ages, every culture has created myths and legends that recount the great deeds of its heroes. This year’s entries reflect a remarkable range of styles, materials, and approaches to great classics of world literature, as well as modern texts.

“Heroic Works” collects the full 184 entries from the 2017 competition, highlighting the 28 winning bindings and offering a veritable showcase for the creativity and craftsmanship of the international bookbinding community. As beautifully designed as many of the bindings it displays, this showcase of the best in modern bookbinding will become a collector’s item among aficionados of bookbinding—as well as a handsome addition to any personal library.”

Siniossoglou also has been accepted to the International Bookbinding Competition, organized by the Society of Bookbinders in Chessington, England. The competition is held every two years in five categories: Fine Binding, Case Binding, The Complete Book, Restoration and Historic Binding.

From July 14 to August 3, one of her prints was part of the show Route Tracing in Lemnos, Greece, and one of her artist’s books at the Book Binding Exhibition at the Bellonio Foundation in Santorini.

She also participated at the show Making Time: Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of The Boston Printmakers at the Cotuit Center for the Arts, Cotuit, Mass., from August 5 to September 16 and was accepted at the International Contemporary Miniprint 2017 in Kazanlak, Bulgaria from June 1-30.
