Student-Athletes Lead Field Day for Worcester Children

The Worcester State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) welcomed more than 70 kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester to their annual Field Day on Thursday, April 18, at the Wellness Center.

Members of SAAC spent the morning and early afternoon playing games and leading activities for the kids. Highlights of the event can be found on Worcester State SAAC’s Instagram page, @wsusaac.

“I love being a part of this event,” says Courtney Guay, SAAC representative and member of the women’s cross country and track & field teams. “Having these great interactions with the kids makes me feel like a little kid again. I recognize a lot of the kids here from last year’s field day, so I think that shows just how much the kids enjoy this event.”

“This event would not be possible without the generosity of the president’s office for providing a bus for the Boys & Girls Club,” says SAAC advisor Kelly Downs. “We’d also like to thank Leo’s T-Bird Pizza for providing lunch for the kids.”

“The kids enjoy having these student-athletes here,” says Evelisa Rivera, an employee of the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester. “They help create a more memorable experience for all the kids and it is great to see.”

SAAC is an NCAA initiative with the goal of enhancing the student-athlete experience on campus. Every NCAA institution has a SAAC, as well as every conference. “Each committee is made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience and offer input on the rules, regulations, and policies that affect student-athletes’ lives on campus,” says the NCAA on its website.
