All Worcester State students are invited to register for The Future Forum, a three-day career event to be held from Tuesday, February 18, through Thursday, February 20. It will provide students with a variety of opportunities to explore potential career paths and connect with alumni. Registration is required, and students are encouraged to register now at worcester.edu/campus-life/leadership-opportunities/the-future-forum, as space is limited. Full descriptions of the forum’s workshops can be found using the link.

The forum will kick off February 18 with a Young Alumni Panel featuring seven alumni who graduated within the past 15 years. “Students will be inspired by alumni stories and find the resources they need to help them [during] their time at Worcester State University,” said Suzanne Nebelung, associate director of alumni relations and engagement. Snacks, appetizers, and refreshments will be served.

February 19 will bring four workshops. “Beyond the Résumé” will teach students how to “stand out beyond paper,” said Ben Concepcion, assistant director of Career Services. In “Taking Responsibility and Supporting Accountability,” students will develop their professional skills, while “Many Lenses of Self Care” will discuss the importance of taking care of yourself, and “Practice Interviews” will offer practical interview feedback.

Another four workshops will take place February 20. In “Viewing the Future with Possibility, Not Fear,” students will learn to apply their concerns about the future in a positive way. “Talking Through Life: Communication Styles in Wicked” will use character metaphors from the popular musical to explore communication styles. “Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: Succeeding through Inspiration” will focus on professional leadership skills, while “Silent Strength: Your Introversion is Your Leadership Superpower” will discuss the value of introverted leaders in the workplace.

During all three days, students will also have the opportunity to take professional headshots. Located in the Alumni Office, in Room 231 on the second floor of the Administrative Building, this photo booth will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with no registration required.

The Future Forum will conclude with the February 20 networking event “Beyond the Business Card,” to be held off campus at the Worcester restaurant Gambrino’s Cask & Barrel. There will be a cash bar, with Blue Jeans Pizza provided by alumni. This is a casual event, and students are encouraged to use it to connect with alumni to discuss experiences and future career goals. It will feature giveaways and networking games with prizes.

“If you come to these events,” Concepcion said, “you’ll get something practical. At the end of the day, we’re here to help students.”
