Tips to Help Students Get Ready to Move on Campus

If you are still packing your belongings and doing some last-minute shopping for supplies for your room in one of Worcester State University’s residence halls, we want to share with you some things you can expect when you arrive for move-in on either Monday, September 4 or Tuesday, September 5.

Check Our ResHall Checklists

Before you go shopping for your room, it’s a good idea to review the checklists [1] of what is allowed—and what isn’t—in student rooms. Each room is furnished with beds, chairs, desks, wardrobes or built-in closets, and window shades. Dowden Hall, Sheehan Hall, and Wasylean Hall have dressers.

Bring Your Student ID

Remember to put your OneCard in your wallet before you leave home. You’ll need it to get in your residence hall and your room. As your general student identification card, you use it to borrow books from our library, for meal swipes, to buy books from our bookstore, manage your student account, print on campus, and make deposits online or at one of the kiosks around campus. You can also use your OneCard to get discounts at participating local merchants.

Use Our Moving Carts

There’s no need to schlep all your belongings up our residence hall elevators. Most of your belongings will fit in one of our moving carts that will be available during move-in.

Help from the Lancer Lifters

Our Lancer Lifters are available to do the heavy lifting during your move-in experience. They help move items out of your—or your parent’s—vehicle into the moving carts. They’ll also help you push the moving carts up to your room.

Browse the Yard Sale

On Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chandler Village 14-16, our Sustainability Office is holding a yard sale with items donated to Ditch the Dumpster by students who moved out of their rooms in May. Donations include kitchenware, fans, rugs, refrigerators, electronics, and clothes. Profits from the yard sale go to a sustainability project that will be implemented on the campus.
