Treseler Wins Ireland’s Munster Literature Centre’s Prize

Heather Treseler, Ph.D., associate professor of English, has won Ireland’s Munster Literature Centre’s International Chapbook Prize for 2019. Treseler’s chapbook of poems, Parturition, will be published in March 2020 to coincide with the Cork International Poetry Festival, which has featured several award-winning poets from around the globe, including David Harsent, Billy Collins, Kim Addonizio, and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill.

Treseler will receive 1,000€ (approximately $1,100) and will travel to Cork to give a public reading at the chapbook launch on March 28. Parturition will be available for purchase in Europe and the United States after its publication date.

Parturition includes two poems, “Louisiana Requiem” and “Shorelines,” which won individual prizes from Frontier Poetry and the Crosswinds Poetry Journal in 2018, and it is the first third of Treseler’s full-length manuscript of poems. Other poems in the chapbook have appeared in Cincinnati Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, The Worcester Review, SWIMM, and Notre Dame Review. Treseler’s work on this manuscript has been supported by residency fellowships at the Boston Athenaeum, the Brandeis Women’s Studies Research Center, and the T. S. Eliot Estate.

Treseler is a Presidential Fellow in Art, Education and Community for Worcester State University.
