University Addresses Reported Assaults

There has been a recent news report about a series of three alleged sexual assaults since the beginning of the fall semester at Worcester State University. WSU Police, Counseling Services, Residential Life and Student Affairs have made a concerted effort to communicate with the student and university community as soon as the alleged incidents were reported. In all three cases, the parties were known to each other and no formal charges were filed.

Since the beginning of the semester, University Police [1], Counseling [2], Residence Life [3], and Student Affairs [4] have reached out to students through formal and informal sessions at least ten times to educate students, parents, and families about the importance of personal safety and the importance of making reports to university police and counseling services in a timely fashion.

The program, “Sex Signals,” is offered to all first year students through counseling services, which educates students about avoiding and handling situations that could put students at risk. The university takes the safety and well being of all of its students seriously and will continue to alert students and the greater community of incident notifications and will continue to provide access to educational and counseling services.
