Worcester State University has launched a new website for its 2.5 million annual visitors that features vibrant student-focused imagery and storytelling, personalized navigation and new tools for exploring academic programs.
The 18-month re-platforming and redesign of www.worcester.edu was led by Eri Design, a digital creative agency with headquarters in Worcester, and the university’s Office of Communications and Marketing. It incorporates best practices for mobile design and a newly rebranded MyWooState student portal.
“The new website is both beautiful and easy to use, giving our visitors an intuitive, informative and compelling experience as they find the information they need and explore all that Worcester State has to offer, said Marketing Director Kelly Lin, who oversaw the project.
The university’s website averages 10,000 page views per day and its last significant update was in 2014.
The new Worcester.edu allows users to self-identify as future, current, graduate or continuing education students, faculty and staff, or alumni and friends of the university. Each of these pathways has been tailored to quickly bring different users to the pages most useful to them. For instance, in just one click, current students can find the Registrar’s office, while alumni can link to upcoming networking events. In addition, a new university directory makes it possible to easily locate contact information for individuals, academic departments and administrative offices.
Future and current students will find new tools that allow them to discover academic programs by major, career aspirations or interests. In addition, the university has made more readily available to students a wide selection of content that used to require a login to access. Throughout the site, student voices and experiences are elevated with a first-person student video series, a new We are Worcester State video on the homepage, and student testimonials.
As part of the project, Eri Design conducted an extensive analysis of the previous website’s use and a survey of 400 website visitors, including students, faculty, parents, staff, alumni and board members. The survey found that visitors wanted a modern design, more personalized and up-to-date content, more intuitive navigation and strong visuals that show the student life.
“We’re thrilled to start the academic year with a powerful new website that has been designed to both serve and highlight our students,” said Dr. Ryan Forsythe, vice president for enrollment management.
