Wagner and Hopkins Receive Thomas Jefferson Awards

Mark Wagner, director of the Binienda Center for Civic Engagement, and Kelsey Hopkins, Massachusetts Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA member and Worcester State University alumna, recently received the Thomas Jefferson Award from Worcester Public Schools at their annual “Evening of Celebration” event.

Wagner and Hopkins won the award in recognition for their work in the literacy program for 1st and 2nd graders at Tatnuck Magnet School.

In honoring Hopkins and Wagner, Tatnuck Magnet Principal Erin Dobson wrote: “They created free literacy-based before- and after-school programs for under-performing students in grades 1 and 2. Their commitment to creating additional literacy opportunities has made a positive impact on the achievement of Tatnuck’s youngest students. We are thrilled to honor them with the Thomas Jefferson Award.”
