The Worcester State University community once again demonstrated the power of collective generosity during the annual WOOGIVES campaign, raising $33,580 to support students across campus.
Held February 9-10, the friendly fundraising competition brought together 42 teams representing athletics, clubs and organizations, and academic departments. The campaign encourages alumni, families, faculty, staff, and friends to support the programs that enrich the Worcester State student experience.
Beyond the leaderboards and friendly rivalry, every dollar raised during WOOGIVES helps sustain the opportunities that define campus life—from research in university labs and performances on stage to athletic competition and student-led initiatives.
“Opportunity at Worcester State doesn’t happen by chance—it happens because our community believes in our students,” said Worcester State University President Barry Maloney. “This year, 42 teams came together to create life-changing experiences for the next generation of Lancers.”
Maloney emphasized that the funds raised directly support hands-on learning and student growth.
“Donations received through WOOGIVES fuel discovery, creativity, and confidence,” he said. “It helps provide things like research equipment, travel to conferences and tournaments, essential gear, and moments that help students see what’s possible.”
Among the athletic teams participating in this year’s campaign, Women’s Lacrosse finished first in fundraising, followed closely by Women’s Hockey and Women’s Soccer. In the clubs and organizations category, the Dance Team once again led the way, with strong support also helping the Drag Club and Equestrian Team secure second and third place finishes. Within academic departments and university offices, the Department of Earth, Environment & Physics claimed the top spot, followed by the Biology Department and the Office of Military & Veteran Services.
According to Thomas McNamara, Vice President for University Advancement, the campaign highlights the spirit of collaboration and pride within the Worcester State community.
“Each year, WOOGIVES reminds us of the incredible generosity and pride that define the Worcester State University community,” McNamara said. “These days of giving shine a light on the transformative work happening beyond the classroom, from athletics and student clubs to immersive academic and experiential learning opportunities that shape confident, career-ready graduates.”
“These experiences create lasting memories, foster meaningful connections, and provide the hands-on learning that helps our students launch successful futures,” he added. “WOOGIVES is more than a fundraising effort; it is a celebration of what makes our community so special and of the collective impact we can have when we rally around our students.”
Although the two-day campaign has concluded, supporters can still make a gift [1] to help Worcester State teams and organizations continue their momentum and ensure that student groups across campus have the tools they need to succeed this year.
