Worcester State University to Host Panel on Ukraine

Worcester State faculty will speak about current events in Ukraine at a panel discussion on Thursday, March 24, at 2:30 p.m. Topics include 100 years of Russian interference and Ukrainian resistance, Russia’s response to democratization in former Soviet areas, and U.S.-Russian relations and nuclear threat.

“The events in Ukraine in the past few weeks have been dramatic, heart-rending, and have captured our collective attention,” said the panel’s facilitator, Charlotte Haller, chair of the History and Political Science Department. Thursday’s panel will “be a lively, engaging and thought-provoking event that will help us all situate the recent events within their broader historical and political context,” Haller said.

Many of the department’s faculty have taken class time to discuss the war, think through the kinds of questions to ask when reading the news or scrolling through social media, and provide context to the unfolding situation. The panel will highlight the work of three experts who teach in the department:

The 90-minute-long event will be held over Zoom and is open to all. Register to attend. [1]
