Worcester State’s Baseball Field Wins National Award for Field Maintenance

The Kevin Lyons Baseball Diamond at Rockwood Park, the home of the WSU baseball team since 2012, recently received national recognition as the best maintained college field in the country. The American Baseball Coaches Association presented WSU with the TURFACE Athletic Maintenance Award in the College Division in January.

‘It is truly an honor to receive a national award from the ABCA and TURFACE Athletics,” said baseball Head Coach Dirk Baker. “We look forward to the upcoming season and will make further improvements on the field with the awards we were given.”

The Worcester State Foundation contributed $540,000 toward a $2.8 million, multi-year renovation project of Rockwood Field, which is city-owned property adjacent to the University’s north parking lot. A memorandum of understanding between Worcester State and the city ensures that Lancer and community teams have use of the fields, as their schedules require.

The award also includes one ton of clay and a $400 stipend to help defray the cost of maintenance equipment.
