The World Languages Department celebrated the first Worcester State University World Languages Undergraduate Conference on Saturday, October 28. The event was a success, with innovative undergraduate research, engaging discussions, and many relatives joining us as audience members.
Undergraduate students from WSU and other institutions from around the state, like Boston College, University of Massachusetts Boston, College of the Holy Cross, Clark University, and Westfield State University, attended. They presented research on a wide array of themes, such as contemporary Hispanic film, women writing and representation, African socio-political issues, Russian thought, magical realism, the postcolonial Caribbean, Italian renaissance, and the Japanese novel.
As keynote speaker, Dolores Juan Moreno, Ph.D., from Clark University, presented her research in a lecture titled, “Full Plate: Food, Identity, and Self Representation in Contemporary Spanish Film and Poetry.”
Participating students were awarded a certificate of attendance at the closing remarks ceremony. All students, professors, and audience members at large were nicely impressed by the quality of the research presented, and hope to meet again in future editions.
