WSU Welcomes Worcester’s New School Superintendent

About 60 Worcester State University faculty, staff, and alumni as well as community members joined President Barry M. Maloney on Tuesday, August 24 to congratulate new Worcester Public Schools [1] Superintendent Maureen Binienda on her new position and to re-commit to a strong partnership between the two organizations.

Maloney said that WSU values its many partnership programs [2] with the Worcester Public Schools and predicted that Binienda would do “great things” for the school system.

“When I got the position, I couldn’t wait to go and work with the kids and my colleagues,” Binienda said.

She talked about her many years of experience as a teacher and administrator. “Once you have an opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life, you never forget that,” she said.

“Being the superintendent is like being a conductor for an orchestra,” she added. “There are beautiful instruments that may need some tuning and support, but everybody is ready to play.”

She thanked WSU for supporting Worcester Public Schools. “We have a great relationship with WSU, and I want to build on that,” she said.
