Members of the WSU community, along with the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps, gathered to celebrate past and current fellows in the WSU – RFK Children’s Action Corps fellows program in early March on campus.
The fellows program began in 2007. Since that time, 20 WSU students have been trained and served as fellows at the RFK Lancaster campus, working with at risk teens and adolescents in a residential treatment facility founded in 1969 by friends and colleagues of Robert F. Kennedy.
David Tivnan ’94, director of operations at RFK, along with Mark Wagner, director of the Binienda Center for Civic Engagement, presented plaques to Erika Anderson ’12, who has gone from the fellows program to now serving two and a half years with RFK. The afternoon also honored current fellows Craig Snyder, Brittany King, Jen Cardenas, and Cassie Giardina.
WSU juniors and rising seniors are eligible for full time summer employment and training, and supervised case work through the year. Interested students would contact Career Services for more information.
“We are very fortunate to have such a strong relationship with RFK Children’s Action Corps,” said WSU President Barry M. Maloney. “Our students have benefited greatly from their service learning experiences at RFK. I applaud Worcester State alumnus Dave Tivnan for his leadership in working with our students and our trustee, Terry Shanley, for fostering the growth of this program.”
Shanley, who was on hand for the event, has played a leadership role pursuing strategic partnerships with WSU to better address the challenges facing today’s youth.
