Worcester State will convert to distance learning modalities beginning Monday, March 30, for the remainder of the semester, according to President Barry M. Maloney. Labs and other experiential learning course requirements may continue as on-campus activities at some point in the future.
In addition, residence halls will close on March 30 through the end of the spring semester. A plan is being developed to invite resident students back to campus to collect their belongings before that date. The University is working with the State of Massachusetts to determine when and how refunds may be made available to resident students.
No final decisions have been made on scheduled, academic year-end activities including commencement.
Because Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency on Sunday, March 15, Worcester State implemented a remote working plan for many employees, with the goal of reducing the concentration of people on campus while also maintaining a level of service to students. Enhanced campus cleaning procedures will continue in all campus buildings.
The Center for Teaching and Learning has been taking the lead in advising faculty about alternative methods for delivering course materials to students while preserving academic integrity. Seminars for faculty have already begun and will continue next week and beyond.
The spring athletic season has been cancelled by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
