Bet Key Wong, a graduate student in the Department of Nursing, has been selected as a 2010-2011 Paul Ambrose Scholar. The Paul Ambrose Scholars Program is sponsored by the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research and the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Through the Paul Ambrose Scholars Program, Bet has received a grant to address low health literacy skills and promote collaboration between health care workers, literacy educators, and community organizations to improve health outcomes in the city of Worcester.
As part of her participation in this highly-selective program, Bet will travel to Washington, D.C., to attend a leadership symposium which provides skills-based training by leaders in public health. Past speakers have included Surgeons General, public health officials, industry experts, and veteran public health practitioners.
Through her year as a Paul Ambrose Fellow, Bet will implement her grant funded, community-based health education project. Bet will be mentored in her research project by her sponsor Stephanie Chalupka (Nursing).
