Stephanie Chalupka (Nursing) will be the keynote speaker at a Catholic Health Association conference in November. Her topic is related to a paper she co-wrote for the Catholic Health Association titled “Climate Change & Health: Is there a role for the health care sector?”
In addition, Chalupka recently co-authored a paper entitled “Female College Student Awareness of Exposures to Environmental Toxins in Personal Care Products and their Effect on Preconception Health,” which has been published in AAOHN Journal: Workplace Health and Safety. Chalupka’s co-author is Lisa Chan, MS, RNC-OB, a 2014 graduate of the WSU MS in Nursing Program (Community/Public Health Nursing).
Chalupka and Chan’s research investigated college women’s usage of personal care products and their views on health effects from exposures during the preconception period. Many personal care products and cosmetics contain chemical ingredients that have been known to disrupt human endocrine and neurological systems, and contribute to infertility and adverse birth outcomes.
