Julie Frechette (Communication) published the chapter “Multiple Literacies for the Age of the Internet” for the book Literacy Practices in Late Modernity: Mastering Technological and Cultural Convergences, edited by Svein Osterud, Barbara Gentikow, Egil Skogseth (2012, Hampton Press).
The book was the culmination of a research summit held at the University of Bergen, Norway, which drew from international scholars in the field. She is one of two Americans to contribute to the book, along with Paul Messaris, professor of communication at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to this book’s publication, Frechette had been invited to present scholarship from her own book Developing Media Literacy in Cyberspace: Pedagogy and Critical Learning for the Twenty-First-Century Classroom. She was awarded a fellowship and served as a visiting scholar among students and faculty from the University of Bergen and the University of Oslo.
