Mary Jo Marion (Latino Education Institute) recently co-authored an article that has been published in the latest issue of Voices in Urban Education (VUE). The article, titled “Enriching English Language Learner Education through School and Community Partnerships,” details how Worcester State University and LEI programs serve English language learner students throughout the city of Worcester, as well as highlights Worcester State’s contributions to its urban community.
This issue of VUE, under the guest editorship of Ruth M. López, was inspired by the Summer English Language Learners Enrichment Academies held across twenty “Gateway Cities” in Massachusetts. These stories illustrate the power of recognizing that students’ heritage languages and cultural backgrounds are an asset to the communities in which they live.
