Susan Seibel (Intensive English Language Institute) joined Marie-Rose Romain Murphy of Romain Murphy Consulting, Daniel Lam of Bunker Hill Community College, and Jeffrey Gross of the New Americans Integration Institute at the MIRA Coalition on a panel hosted by the Boston Healthcare Careers Consortium.
The panel discussed the issues involved with the re-certification of immigrants who were professionals in their native countries. The relicensing process in the United States is very difficult, confusing and lengthy for doctors, nurses, engineers, educators, etc. Immigrants who are professionals become a lost resource to the United States as they work in unskilled jobs. Re-licensing immigrants would maximize these professional resources, increase tax revenues, and open up the unskilled jobs that professionals are filling.
