Five Worcester State College students were recognized at Senator Paul E. Tsongas Scholarship Luncheon at the State House in Boston, Massachusetts, Monday, November 16.  Veronica Adams, Erica Allen, Jennifer Grady, Jessica Karlowicz and Chadyn Morrison were joined by President Janelle Ashley and family members at the event.

The Scholarship recipients for 2008 – 2009 received full scholarships covering in-state tuition and mandatory fees for up to four years, approximately $5,300 each year.  Scholarship awards are merit-based, and financial need is not required for eligibility.   Students must maintain a minimum 3.3 grade point average and fulfill requirements set by individual colleges in the program.

The Tsongas Scholarship Program was launched in 1998 in tribute to Paul E. Tsongas, United States Senator from Massachusetts, who died in 1997.  The program was designed to further his belief in the value of education and the importance of public colleges and universities in providing opportunities for all citizens to enjoy access to academic excellence.  All nine State Colleges participate in the program.
