Attorney George W. Tetler III’s contributions to the Worcester community will be honored by Worcester State College at its annual Scholarship Tea on Sunday, May 2 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Tetler, a member of WSC’s Board of Trustees and the Worcester State Foundation Board, is a partner at Bowditch & Dewey in Worcester, representing businesses and financial institutions in business planning and transactional matters with emphasis on mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, restructurings, and financing transactions. He was recently inducted as a fellow of The American College of Bankruptcy at the U.S. Supreme Court.
Tetler’s community service includes being treasurer and a councilor of the American Antiquarian Society, a director of the Worcester Business Development Corp., vice chair, director and former president of the Worcester Municipal Research Bureau, a director of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, former chairman of the Worcester Area Chamber of Commerce, former chairman of the United Way of Central Massachusetts, former chairman of Music Worcester, a corporator for the Worcester Art Museum, and the assistant treasurer of All Saints Church.
“George has been very instrumental in Worcester State’s progress. I’m delighted that the Tea Committee chose to recognize George’s many contributions to the college and the greater community,” said WSC President Janelle C. Ashley.
Tetler joined WSC’s Board of Trustees in 2001 and was reappointed to a second term that ends in March 2011. He served as board chair from 2005 to 2009. During that time, the college launched the largest fundraising campaign in its history, renovated the Helen G. Shaughnessy Administration Building, built a new parking garage, entered into an alliance with the Worcester Center for Crafts, launched a new Interdisciplinary Visual and Performing Arts major, and adopted a new Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum. He has served on the Worcester State Foundation Board since 1999 and was chair from 2001 to 2003.
Since its rebirth 16 years ago, the Scholarship Tea has honored outstanding citizens whose work stimulates the vitality, health, and success of their communities. Proceeds from the Tea benefit student scholarships. For more information on attending this event, please contact the WSC Alumni Office at alumni@worcester.edu or 508-929-8141.
